Diverse mosquito-specific flaviviruses in the Bolivian Amazon basin

چکیده

The genus Flavivirus includes a range of mosquito-specific viruses in addition to well-known medically important arboviruses. Isolation and comprehensive genomic analyses mosquitoes collected Bolivia resulted the identification three novel flavivirus species. Psorophora (PSFV) was isolated from albigenu . coding sequence PSFV polyprotein shares 60 % identity with that Aedes -associated lineage II insect-specific (ISF), Marisma virus. Isolated replicates both albopictus - aegypti -derived cells, but not mammalian Vero or BHK-21 cell lines. Two other flaviviruses, Ochlerotatus scapularis (OSFV) Mansonia (MAFV), which were identified titillans, respectively, group classical I ISFs. protein sequences these share only 40 most closely related known ISFs, including Xishuangbanna aedes Sabethes flavivirus, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis suggests MAFV is clearly distinct groups current Culicinae Interestingly, predicted amino acid capsid approximately two times longer than any flaviviruses. Our results indicate flaviviruses features can be found at edge Bolivian Amazon basin sites are also home dense populations human-biting mosquitoes.

Novel flaviviruses from mosquitoes: Mosquito-specific evolutionary lineages within the phylogenetic group of mosquito-borne flaviviruses

Novel flaviviruses that are genetically related to pathogenic mosquito-borne flaviviruses (MBFV) have been isolated from mosquitoes in various geographical locations, including Finland. We isolated and characterized another novel virus of this group from Finnish mosquitoes collected in 2007, designated as Ilomantsi virus (ILOV). Unlike the MBFV that infect both vertebrates and mosquitoes, the M...

Detection of mosquito-only flaviviruses in Europe.

The genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae, includes a number of important arthropod-transmitted human pathogens such as dengue viruses, West Nile virus, Japanese encephalitis virus and yellow fever virus. In addition, the genus includes flaviviruses without a known vertebrate reservoir, which have been detected only in insects, particularly in mosquitoes, such as cell fusing agent virus, Kamiti...

Comparative population dynamics of mosquito-borne flaviviruses.

Among the members of the genus Flavivirus are several important human pathogens, including the dengue (DEN) and Japanese encephalitis (JE) viruses. From the analysis of gene sequence data of samples of these virus populations it is possible to infer phylogenetic relationships, which in turn can yield important epidemiological information, including their demographic history in humans. In this s...

Human capital, wealth, and nutrition in the Bolivian Amazon.

We analyze anthropometric variables of a society of forager-horticulturalists in the Bolivian Amazon (Tsimane') in 2001-2002. Community variables (e.g., inequality, social capital) explain little of the variance in anthropometric indices of nutritional status, but individual-level variables (schooling, wealth) are positively correlated with nutritional status. Dietary quality (foods high in ani...
